On a boiling hot day, Simon Ironside and Paul Wood did battle for Unity Singles Champion. Advantage handicap rules put Simon on -2 and Paul on 0 to start. The match was best of three.
Simon took the first game 7-5. Paul began the second game well, taking the first hoop, putting Simon three hoops down, but he fought back and won the second game 7-6, ensuring his name would be on the trophy for the third successive year.
The highlight of Paul’s play was a magnificent jump over Simon on hoop 12 from some 10 feet out.
